Thoughts about quilting from Gwen Marston...
Here are some concepts from nineteenth century quilts that we can still use effectively today:
  • simple pieced patterns 
  • random color placement and color substitution
  • no corner resolution on borders
  • tied quilts
  • edges finished by bringing the backing to the front and making binding
  • less precision

I've never understood what seems to be the over-preoccupation with precision in the quilt world. It seems to me that the making of art has very little to do with staying inside the lines.
